Renovation Port Sud Moulart – COOP - 12.005

Program

Complete mission for civil and structural engineering.

Concept

The project consists of the restoration of a factory complex comprising 2 old buildings and several annexes. The 2 buildings use reinforced concrete frames of the Hennebique system in-filled with masonry. The oldest of the 2 dates from the beginning of the 20th century and is by consequence a very early example of reinforced concrete. Because of its historical value it is preserved. The restoration comprises 2 aspects. The 1st relates to the restoration of the existing structures with a rehabilitation of the damaged elements and a check of the elements preserved as well as a series of specific interventions needed to adapt the existing structure to its future function. The 2nd intervention relates to the creation of new spaces. These have consciously been given a steel frame in order disassociate them from the existing structure. They include a large reception hall located at the foot of the building extending over the whole of the ground floor of the site. Additionally, a new vertical circulation zone located at the front of the site connects each entity and 2 levels added above the building.
