Renovation Port Sud Moulart - 12.005

Program

Complete mission for civil and structural engineering.

Concept

The project consists of the heavy restoration of a factory complex comprising two old buildings and several annexes. The two buildings use reinforced concrete frames of the Hennebique system in-filled with masonry. The oldest of the two buildings dates from the beginning of the 19th century and is by consequence a very early example of the use of reinforced concrete. Because of its historical value it needed to be preserved. The restoration comprises two aspects. The first relates to the restoration of the existing structures with a rehabilitation of the damaged elements and a check (and, if necessary, a reinforcement) of the elements preserved as well as a series of specific interventions needed to adapt the existing structure to its future function. These interventions include in particular the dismantling of old silos and the addition of floors. The second intervention relates to the creation of new spaces. These have consciously been given a steel frame in order to clearly disassociate them from the existing structure. They include a large reception hall located at the foot of the building extending practically over the whole of the ground floor of the site. Additionally a new vertical circulation zone located at the front of the site connects each entity and two levels added above the building.
